About us
Founded in 2017, GASB (German Association for Synthetic Biology) is the central platform connecting Germany’s diverse SynBio community—from curious students and emerging researchers to established academics, industry professionals, and policymakers. We work to strengthen networks, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote an open and responsible approach to synthetic biology. At the heart of our mission is the belief that science thrives through dialogue—not only within research circles, but also with society at large. By creating spaces for exchange, shaping policy discussions, and supporting the next generation of SynBio leaders, we aim to make synthetic biology more visible, more connected, and more impactful.
Our Vision
At GASB, we believe that Synthetic Biology will become one of the key disciplines of the 21st century and therefore, we aim to serve as the association for this young research area in Germany. We want to foster responsible research and Synthetic Biology applications as well as the dialogue in a social and political context.
As the German Association for Synthetic Biology, our mission is to serve as the platform for the German SynBio-Community, as well as the moderator between its individual parties. GASB is open to everyone who is interested in Synthetic Biology: from student to professional, from academic research labs to producing industry, from scientist to SynBio enthusiasts.
